Campfire Singing

Good evening,
If your Monday was as hectic as ours can be, you probably could use a little stress reliever about now.
So take a break... kick back and enjoy a little fireside singing with our family.
The clip below is from an overnight family camp-out near the Appalachian Trail in South Mountain. We love sitting around the campfire and talking late into the night, but the best part is campfire singing.
And as you'll notice, we were not the only ones singing praise to our God! The Katydids and other night insects were helping along so loudly that occasionally they almost drown us out!
The sound quality is not the best (recorded with the camera mic) and it's hard to catch all the words, so I printed the lyrics of our song below. That way you can follow along better.
We were singing by memory so we probably did not get the words or music all correct, but you get it as it was... unedited. :)

How Great Thou Art
O Lord My God! When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze:
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
And when I think that God His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin:
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, “My God! How Great Thou Art!”
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee:
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

There... did that brighten your Monday? :)
As you can imagine with a farming schedule, it's hard to pull our whole family away for extended vacations. But each year we do try to spend at least one night camping out with all of us together.
Our camping is nothing fancy... in fact, by most standards, we rough it. We don't take tents... we just curl up in sleeping bags under the stars.
And of course we take Family Cow favorites like sausage patties, links or beef steaks to grill over the fire for our evening supper and for breakfast the next morning... And yes, plenty of raw milk, raw cheese and water kefir. :)
Since we don't take tents, we do try to carefully watch the weather predictions to be sure it's not going to rain while we are out. That carefulness has usually worked.
But one year, about 4 years ago... It. Did. Not!
Our boys had fun writing this wild story telling of that disaster. Warning: The boys did glamorize and embellish it quite a bit. So read it with a grain of salt.
But even without the exaggeration... the truth was pretty bad. We actually did have about 3 inches of rain, and yes it did put our campfire out and yes we did stay out the whole time because there really was no option and yes we did sing "Precious Memories How they Linger" huddled around the what-had-been-campfire in the middle of the storm.
I'm sorry – we failed to get a recording of the campfire singing that year. But maybe it's just as well we didn't. I doubt it would have done much to brighten your day! HA!
Blessings,
Your farmer ~ Edwin
P.S. This Campfire Singing was from the summer of 2019 but I thought you'd all enjoy seeing it again! :)
