Organic Grain Fraud – Behind the Industrial Curtain Part 3

Organic Grain Fraud is corrupting "certified organic" integrity around the world.
Greedy hearts are swayed by millions of dollars in easy cash...
A line is crossed and honesty dropped.
Officials are bribed and papers signed.
Conventional grain is sold at certified organic premiums and the pockets are lined.... ready to do it again.
Unsuspecting organic farmers buy this chemical grown grain for their animals and the meat is sold as certified organic.
Trusting moms and dads choose organic in the grocery store to get the best for their families... Instead, they get ripped off.
I'm sick of organic fraud.
Government inspectors need to develop a stronger system to prevent fraud if they want people to trust the organic seal.
With US importing about 70% of its organic soybeans and 40% of its organic corn, we are depending on the integrity of other nations.
And they have left us down too often.
Cornucopia says, "Failed enforcement and ineffective regulations made the U.S. ripe for fraud and organized crime." Read their report here on The Turkish Infiltration of the U.S. Organic Grain Market.
But not all fraud happens on imported grain.
Randy Constant from Missouri sold 142 million dollars of fake organic grain between 2010 and 2017.
That is not a typo: one hundred forty-two million dollars of fake organic grain. Read the full story here.
His actions helped destroy many people's trust in the organic seal.
So now the problem is...
"If there's so much organic fraud happening, who do we trust to bring us real organics?"
It's a good question–one we all need to think about.
Some farmers decide that since organics can't be fully trusted they won't even try to feed their animals organically.
Instead they just use non-GMO feed and call it good enough.
But wait a minute... non-GMO and truly certified organic are not even close! Non-GMO does NOT mean chemical free.
GMO-free crops are regularly grown in soils sprayed with chemicals just before the seed emerges from the ground.
This includes chemical pesticides, chemical herbicides and chemical fertilizers.
Some GMO-free crops are even sprayed directly with Glyphosate to kill and dry the plant for harvest in a process called desiccation.
If it is important to you that your food is free from all chemical herbicides, pesticides, insecticides and fungicides you will need to ask farmers if their pastureland AND feed is chemical-free.
GMO-Free is not enough for those who care about long term health detriments of chemical exposure. This is what Real Organics have always been about.
Here at The Family Cow we meet these challenges head on.
Since we are truly committed to Chemical-Free, and since we know there is fraud in the organic industry...
We grow our own animal feed on our own certified organic farmland to ensure the purity of our foods.
Any feed ingredient we can't grow ourselves we buy certified organic or chemical-free from trusted, local farmers.
We are committed to Chemical-Free AND GMO-Free so your family can eat high-integrity, Real Organic foods with confidence.
It is a difficult and increasingly expensive commitment... but worth it.
Thank-you for supporting us with your food dollars.
We couldn't do this without your help!
I plan to write another post later to bring more clarity to the problem of "GMO-free confusion" and what you can do about it.
All the best of food and blessings,
Wesley
